The National A Capella Convention is an Educational Conference held yearly in the mid-south. This convention is a time for high school and college level performers to compete with each other as well as attend work shops and masterclasses both as a group and individually. This conference also features two separate showcases for the participating groups - a popup showcase and a main stage showcase. The lighting design process for this convention was in the moment and fast. Groups were given a fifteen minute soundcheck to practice before showcase or competition and this was all the time the designers had to program. The designers alternated between being in charge of moving heads and effects or intelligent lights and conventionals on a by group basis and the overall design focused heavily on timed effects and concert style settings.Â
